Guam Solid Waste Authority Employees Work Together to Expedite Typhoon Dolphin Cleanup
(Guam, May 20, 2015) – Federal Receiver Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc., (GBB) said today that the Guam Solid Waste Authority (GSWA) opened its Residential Transfers Stations in Dededo, Agat, Malojloj, and Harmon on Sunday, May 17 so residents could clean up their homes after Typhoon Dolphin. A total of 349 residents utilized these transfer station resources with 48% using the Dededo Transfer Station alone. At the request of the Office of the Governor, the Dededo Transfer Station will be shut down on June 29, 2015.
GSWA also opened up the Haulers’ Only Transfer Station for part of the day on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, so that commercial trash could be collected. The Layon Landfill management team of GreenGroup Holding, Inc., and its employees opened the Layon Landfill early and kept it open late on Monday, May 18, during which time it received 685.72 tons (1,371,440 pounds) of trash in 36 loads. Slightly over 640 tons of this came directly from the Haulers’ Only Transfer Station.
"I want to thank the employees at GSWA who worked hard to secure the equipment, inform the public, and came into work even when faced with damage to their own homes. The potential destruction of these kinds of storms requires us to work together,” said Federal Receiver Operations Manager Chace Anderson after a review of the GSWA operations.
The important work being conducted at the Ordot Dump by Black Construction was temporarily delayed during the storm after the site had been secured. Minimal disruption or damage occurred at the site and Black Construction returned to work on May 18 to continue to environmentally close the Ordot Dump.
