Federal Receiver Awards Contract for Wheeled and Covered Trash Carts to Far East Equipment Company

Major Milestone Towards Efficient, State-of-the-Art, Trash Collection Program

(Guam, May 6, 2009) – Federal Receiver Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc., (GBB) today announced the award of a contract to Far East Equipment Company for the delivery of wheeled and covered trash carts with riveted radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags attached for each of its residential customers, and 15 cart lifters to attach to existing trucks. The new carts, scheduled for delivery in the summer and fall, will be integrated with customer service software acquired through a procurement process currently underway. The new system will allow the Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD) trucks' Global Positioning Systems, the carts’ RFID tags, and the billing and customer service software to communicate and track services.

"Guam is moving towards a more efficient, state-of-the-art, trash collection program,” noted Receiver Representative David L. Manning, "We plan to implement a cart based collection program to provide more efficient services to residents, reduce the risk of injuries to SWMD workers, achieve uniformity of trash containers, and track all customer collection for billing activities.”

The contract was awarded following an Invitation for Bid (IFB) issued on March 18, 2009, through the General Services Agency (GSA) of the Government of Guam. The contract will be in effect for five (5) years whereby Far East Equipment Company will provide any of the specified items under the terms of this bid throughout that time.
