Guam Solid Waste Authority Rolls Out New Islandwide Curbside Recycling Program
(Guam, October 24, 2013) – Federal Receiver Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc. (GBB) today announced that the Guam Solid Waste Authority (GSWA) will begin delivering recycling carts to its residential customers on Friday, October 25, 2013. After receiving their recycling carts, customers will be able to place all of their paper (magazines, copy paper, newspaper, cardboard, cereal boxes, and other paper), aluminum and metal cans, and plastics 1 & 2 beverage containers in one cart for collection. GSWA will collect carts on either the 1st and 3rd or the 2nd and 4th weeks of the month, on the same day that trash is collected. A brochure on the cart details the collection schedule for each customer.
"GSWA is making recycling easy. Just put the appropriate recyclables in the Recycling Cart, and set the cart out the night before the collection day,” said David L. Manning, Receiver Representative. "GSWA customers, on average, dispose of almost 2,400 pounds of trash each year. By placing their paper, plastics, and metal cans in the Recycling Cart, customers can divert up to 50%, or almost 1,200 pounds a year. The more we recycle, the longer the landfill will last and the better our environment will be.”
The new curbside recycling service is free to GSWA residential customers.
About GSWA
The GSWA is a public agency. Each week, GSWA employees collect curbside trash from more than 16,000 residential customers and operate residential transfer stations to serve those who do not pay for curbside collection. GSWA also receives trash collected by commercial haulers through the Hauler-only Transfer Station. GSWA handles more than 90,000 tons of material each year, operating recycling programs to divert as much of the material away from the landfill as possible.
